William Land Park Golf Course is proud to be an official The First Tee of Greater Sacramento golf facility
Our junior golf programs are three-fold, in that they all incorporate the Life Skills of The First Tee (accompanied by The First Tee Nine Core Values and The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits). We teach out students fundamental golf skills, athletic movements, and exercises to develop their golf games and create a healthy youth population.
The First Tee is a World Golf Foundation initiative dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop through the game of golf. This is done by providing life-enhancing values such as: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. In all of our junior classes, we bridge these core values to everyday life.
How We Teach
The golf skills curriculum is a station-based curriculum that helps students discover and improve in a safe environment. We discuss putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, full swing mechanics, and basic rules and etiquette for all ages and ability levels. Typically, we have stations that are set up to help children with one specific fundamental element at a time. It is a priority of the William Land Golf Course coaching staff to keep the student to coach ratio to 5:1 or less.
The third element to our junior golf program is the emphasis on not only an athletic golf motion, but a healthy lifestyle. Some of these athletic movements include the following: throwing a ball, jumping rope, hula hooping, balance boards, hurdles, speed ladders, and much more. We have found that the children not only enjoy “playing”, but have also incorporated these healthy activities into their golf game and everyday life.
