PGA TOUR, PwC donate commercial advertising time during THE PLAYERS to The First Tee
St. Augustine, Fla. (May 7, 2012) - The First Tee’s mission to impact the lives of young people through the game of golf will be highlighted this week during THE PLAYERS Championship, set for May 10-13 at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The First Tee will receive significant exposure during the Golf Channel and NBC telecasts, thanks to a donation of commercial inventory by PwC, a Trustee of The First Tee, and the PGA TOUR, The First Tee Founding Partner.
PwC has been associated with The First Tee since 2000. For the second year, PwC has donated 50 percent of its 2012 paid commercial advertising time in golf programming to The First Tee. This commitment includes PwC’s inventory in NBC and Golf Channel coverage of THE PLAYERS, of which PwC is a Proud Partner. PwC has also donated to The First Tee its full inventory of commercial time on Sirius XM PGA TOUR Radio during THE PLAYERS broadcast.
The exposure will build awareness for The First Tee Campaign for 10 Million Young People, an effort to raise funds necessary to grow and sustain The First Tee’s programs. Three new Campaign public service announcements will debut with one featuring World Golf Hall of Famer Arnold Palmer.
In addition to national exposure through the broadcast, several activities will take place at the tournament to build awareness for The First Tee and involve area participants.
For the eighth year, PwC will host select Scholars of The First Tee during THE PLAYERS at its Executive Business Forum. Four Scholars will be brought in for a learning experience designed to introduce them to corporate America by teaching them about the business of a top professional services firm. The participants will interact with corporate leaders and hear from knowledgeable speakers on topics facing American business today.
Select participants will be covering the tournament as Junior Course Reporters, working alongside PGA TOUR staff to blog about the tournament on PGATOUR.COM. They will receive official media credentials and will meet and interview players, sponsors, caddies, tournament officials, volunteers and other tournament guests.
Throughout the week, PwC’s First Tee Challenge will allow fans to take their shot at a scaled version of the par-3 17th at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. Located in the Stadium Village and open to the general public all week, fans will have two free shots to try and hit the green and win prizes. Fans will have the option to purchase a third shot for $5, with proceeds benefiting The First Tee. Representatives from The First Tee home office and Jacksonville and St. Johns County chapters will serve as volunteers throughout the week.
The tournament will air on May 10-11 on Golf Channel and May 12-13 on Golf Channel and NBC. Visit www.PGATOUR.com/theplayers for specific airtimes.
